If God did exist what would you ask?
Over 2 million people in the UK and 10 million worldwide have attended an Alpha course, an opportunity to explore the meaning of life, running in tens of thousands of churches of all denominations across the world. Alpha is open to anyone, and takes place in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, with a day away. People come from many different backgrounds and hold many different viewpoints.
'What Alpha offers, and what is attracting thousands of people, is permission, rare in secular culture, to discuss the big questions - life and death and their meaning.' The Guardian
Don't grapple with these questions on your own. The Alpha Course is usually run by Reading Family Church three times a year. Don't worry - the Alpha Course is a no pressure course, which means we won’t chase you up if you decide not to come back. So why not join us for the evening and decide for yourself!
What is the Alpha Course?
The Alpha course is designed primarily for people who aren't churchgoers. People attend for a variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith.
What's involved?
The course is based around small groups of about 10 people and each evening begins with coffee and cake - a chance to get to know others in the group. Each week there will be a talk looking at a different aspect of the Christian faith, followed by an open floor question and answer session leading into discussion in small groups. This is your chance to ask your questions and help each other to discover some answers. There is no question too simple or too challenging at the Alpha Course.
Who is Alpha for?
Alpha is for everyone, especially:
- Those wanting to investigate Christianity
- Newcomers to the church
- Those who want to brush up on the basics
How much does it cost?
There is no charge for attending the Alpha course, so it will only cost you the price of your choice of coffee and cake.
Do I need to book?
You are very welcome to just turn up, but if you are able to let us know in advance if you're planning to attend it would help us to know how many people to expect.
